Roster of Honorary Members

The following people are recognised as Honorary Lifelong Members of the Union. Honorary membership is granted to former Auditors, as well as those who have shown extraordinary commitment to the Union and its goals.

  • Dr. Michael Keary, As former Auditor of the Union, and again as bestowed by the first meeting of the Union in 2012 for founding the modern incarnation of the Union.
  • Nico Strauss, As former Auditor of the Union.
  • Dr. Ian Wilson, As bestowed at the 2010 Aberystwyth Open Tournament for his substantial contributions.
  • Kristian Hicks, as former Auditor of the Union.
  • David Jones, as bestowed for his substantial contributions.
  • Holly Tomlinson, as bestowed for her substantial contributions.
  • Dr. Matthew Szeto, as bestowed at the 2011 Aberystwyth Open Tournament for his outstanding contributions to Welsh debating.
  • Hamish Arnold, as former Auditor of the Union.
  • Tom Coyle, as former Auditor of the Union.
  • Zuzana Podracka, as former Auditor of the Union.
  • Professor April McMahon as bestowed at the 2012 Aberystwyth Open Tournament for being the First Vice-Chancellor to attend such an event.
  • Cal Paterson, as bestowed at the 2013 Aberystwyth Open Tournament for his substantial contributions.

The Union

The Aberystwyth Debating Union was founded in 1872, and meets weekly to foster the use of debate as a means of exploring ideas.
