Some of our members are experienced public speakers, but most people come to us with no experience at all. We welcome people of all speaking abilities, as well as people whose first language is not English. Regardless of your ability, you'll fit right in.

Useful Skills

As well as learning how to debate, you will learn how to convincingly construct an argument, how to be a persuasive public speaker, and how to critically analyse arguments you hear. These are important skills in university, and will set you apart when it's time to find a job.

Why debate?

Travel the World

You will have the opportunity to travel around the country almost every weekend. We regularly attend competitive tournaments at other universities, which is great for escaping the Aberystwyth bubble!

We also compete internationally, and have sent teams to compete in places as far as Botswana, Ireland, Turkey, & Belgrade.
